There is a big difference between a food intolerance and a food allergy.

Allergies are a response by our immune system, whereas a food intolerance does not involve the immune system at all.

An intolerance is triggered by various natural food chemicals or additives which irritate the nerve endings in different parts of the body and just like the side effect to a drug, cause these reactions.

Those individuals who are more sensitive to a range of items, such as strong chemical smells, perfumes and the like are often also sensitive to food chemicals and can benefit from an elimination style diet.

At Gippsland Dietetics we use the RPAH diet to assess an overall improvement in any symptoms you may have and go through a reintroduction phase to assess which of the food chemicals are causing the issues to help reduce symptoms and to provide you with guidelines on what foods will be much easier to eat in the future.
